2021 Knoxville Nationals: Kyle Larson’s merchandise sales are booming in the dirt racing world

KNOXVILLE, Iowa — It’s 4 p.m. on Wednesday, a full 27 hours before Kyle Larson straps into a sprint car at the 60th Knoxville Nationals, and the line outside Larson’s sparkling white merchandise trailer is 20 people deep.

With fans starting to file into the Marion County Fairgrounds, there are certainly customers mingling around other drivers’ T-shirt trailers as well. But Larson’s crowd of customers? It’s in another league.

Inside the trailer, there are four people helping fans select their desired apparel. One of them is Katelyn Larson, Kyle’s wife, who practically has a full-time job in the summers with merchandise.

“I barely helped her one time and I was like, ‘I’m not sure I want to ever do that again,’” Kyle said. “It’s tough work and I think a lot of the wives and girlfriends who do it aren’t appreciated enough.
