Alicia Silverstone recreates another Clueless scene for the film’s 26th anniversary which featured her son Bear in the role of her on-screen Dad.
Alicia Silverstone celebrated the 26th anniversary of the motion picture Clueless by acting out a scene from the movie with a very special co-star, her son Bear. Clueless, which came out in 1995, became a touchstone for a generation of fans who loved not only the interaction between Silverstone and co-stars Brittany Murphy, Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Donald Faison, Breckin Meyer, and Elisa Donovan, but the catchphrases as well. The movie continues to inspire fans who coveted the over-the-top styles worn by the lead actresses and created a colorful, sugar-coated vision of what nineties fashion could be.
Since her role as Cher in Clueless, Silverstone has gone on to play Batgirl in the 1997 film Batman & Robin and follow that up with over 33 other film appearances. Silverstone further enhanced her “it girl” status after being featured in the music videos for the Aerosmith classics, “Cryin'” and “Amazing,“ alongside fellow actress and Steven Tyler’s daughter, Liv. Silverstone is currently a cast member of Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club, in which she plays Kristy’s mother, Elizabeth.
In the Instagram video, which appears to have been taken in the actress’ home, Silverstone and Bear recreated a scene between Cher and her busy lawyer father, Mel Horowitz (played by Dan Hedaya). Bear, dressed in a suit and white dress shirt with large glasses perched atop the tip of his nose, mouthed the original words spoken by Hedaya in the film, as did Silverstone as Cher, who wore a white dress that mimicked the fashionable original worn in the movie. In the original scene, Rudd also appeared as Cher’s step-sibling Josh. Also in the original scene was Justin Walker, who played Christian Stovitz. Watch Silverstone’s video below:
Silverstone’s use of her son as her father in the recreated scene added an ironic twist. In another recreation from Clueless that the actress posted to her TikTok account, she walked into school wearing a yellow and black plaid jacket and matching miniskirt, white knee-high socks, and black shoes. A fellow student ran up to her and placed his arm around her shoulders, causing the character of Cher to push him away and say “get off me, as if.” In the recreated version which introduced the actress to TikTok, 10-year-old Bear played the rejected student.
Clueless has a special place in the hearts of ’90s moviegoers. Two decades later, the cult film still resonates in fashion and helped kick off a preppy minimalism style with the over-the-knee socks and kilts, in direct contrast to the grunge look that swept the nation for teens during that time period. Cher’s love of fashion borrowed directly from another teenage film from the 1980s, Pretty in Pink, where the lead character Andee used her fashion to express herself. However, Andee did not have the resources available to her that rich girl Cher had at her disposal. Silverstone has been bringing much nostalgia to social media recently, and the fans’ response to it proves just how beloved Clueless remains all these years later.
