A noticeable lack of promotion for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl makes it difficult not to question if the games will be delayed.
While there’s no indication that it’s going to happen, it’s likely starting to feel to some like Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl could be delayed. A lack of trailers and promotion for the highly anticipated Pokémon Diamond & Pearl remakes is a bit odd, given the series’ history, and it’s starting to raise the question as to whether or not the games could see a delay to 2022.
Back in February, Nintendo announced Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, the long awaited remakes of the fourth generation. Pokémon has followed a pattern for quite some time now of releasing a new generation of games, followed up with a remake of an older generation. This pattern held true for three generations but came to an end with Pokémon Sun & Moon, when Pokémon Diamond & Pearl were not remade in the seventh generation. Since that time many fans have been expecting these remakes, and now that they’re finally coming the question as to when Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl might be releasing is starting to become very curious.
Typically, in the build-up to a major Pokémon release, Nintendo has released a steady stream of trailers and promotional footage showing off the games and detailing various features. But outside of being featured in the Nintendo Switch OLED announcement trailer, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl have not received any sort of trailer or notable promotion since they were announced almost six months ago. While release dates in general are constantly in flux as a result of the ongoing problems related to the Covid-19 pandemic, the lack of promotion for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl is peculiar enough that it’s starting to feel like a delay could be a realistic possibility.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Might Simply Be Exact Remakes
One possible explanation for the lack of promotional footage for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl could simply be that the games are going to be exact remakes of Diamond & Pearl. In the past, Pokémon remakes have taken older games and recreated them in a visual style that matched the current generation and made several changes from the original games. But when Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl were announced, many fans questioned how new these games might feel as they appear to replicate the same visual style of the original games, rather than that of Pokémon Sword & Shield. It would be a disappointing development, but a lack of new features would explain why these games don’t need to be as extensively detailed.
At the end of the day, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl really don’t need much advertising. These remakes have been heavily anticipated for years within the community and they will practically sell themselves because of it. But if these games are going to do something new, like bringing back Pokémon mega evolution, then it would be nice to see that ahead of time in a trailer, and many fans would probably like to get a glimpse at what some of the areas in the Sinnoh region are going to look like with updated graphics. At this stage, it’s difficult to say whether or not Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl will be delayed or hold true to their November release date, but a lack of promotional footage since their announcement has made the question of a delay worth asking.
