BB19’s Cody Nickson shocked fans by defending season 23’s The Cookout alliance in a Q&A on Instagram. Expect the unexpected, even outside the house.
Cody Nickson shocked Big Brother fans by defending The Cookout alliance of season 23. Cody competed on the show in 2017 during season 19. Cody was the biggest target inside the house from early on in the game; however, he went on to win America’s Favorite Houseguest.
While Cody won the first Head of Household competition of the summer, his HOH reign quickly went downhill after he was forced to nominate five different people in just one week. After getting a large target on his back, Cody was evicted from the game. He later won the Battle Back competition, which allowed him to have a second chance at the game. Cody ultimately finished in 11th place. Still, he took home the greatest prize of them all – his wife, Jessica Graf.
Four years after playing the game himself, Cody is still a fan of the show. In a Q&A on Instagram, Cody shocked fans by defending The Cookout alliance of season 23. The Cookout alliance is made up of Azah Awasum, Kyland Young, Derek Frazier, Tiffany Mitchell, and Xavier Prather. One of Cody’s followers prompted the question, “Thoughts on bb and how ‘the cookout’ is basically all blacks get whites out. Racist?” Cody gave a lengthy response to the question. First, he simply responded, “No.” He then continued on to explain that people tend to team up “based on trust, not hate.” Cody used the example that if he found himself in a large group and saw “a bunch of Marine Corps Infantrymen standing together,” he would gravitate towards them because he would feel trust in them.
Cody defended his answer by noting that in the past, there have been numerous alliances on Big Brother that are made up of only white houseguests. He wrote, “You’ve seen a lot of white alliances on the show… you’d have to judge them with the same measure.” The entirety of his response shocked Big Brother fans. In the past, Cody has been bashed for his unpopular opinions and public remarks, which is why this response was so surprising to fans. One Reddit user noted they had to “triple check” to make sure the response was from Cody Nickson and not Cody Calafiore, as it sounded more like something he would say. Many fans were “pleasantly surprised” by his response. Some even joked they were nervous to read his response after reading the question.
Like Big Brother host Julie Chen Moonves always says, “Expect the Unexpected.” Cody’s response to this question was definitely unexpected for fans based on his past remarks. The way Cody answered this question made some fans wonder if the show did not truly show Cody’s full personality. Others feel this one statement does not make up for all of the inexcusable things he has said in the past.
Big Brother 23 airs Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 8pm ET on CBS.
