Clint Bowyer on his time in the Fox Sports booth, prerace skits, laughing at himself and the challenge of live TV

When Fox Sports signed Clint Bowyer to join Mike Joy and Jeff Gordon on its NASCAR Cup Series broadcast team, the idea was for Bowyer to inject some of his trademark fun-loving personality into the booth. That objective seems to have been accomplished, with Bowyer earning kudos for the energy he’s brought to each telecast as well as his analysis.

As Fox Sports concludes its portion of the Cup schedule with Sunday’s All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway, The Athletic checked in with Bowyer to recap his debut season. Among the topics discussed during the interview, Bowyer shared what his transition into broadcasting has been like, how life is different for him now that he’s no longer racing and whether his new job is something he envisions himself doing for a long time.
