De La Hoya To Offer Gervonta Davis 50-50 Split To Fight Ryan Garcia In November

Chris Williams: Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya says he’s poised to offer superstar Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis a 50-50 split to face the belt-less Ryan Garcia for a fight in November.

De La Hoya will be laughed out of the negotiating room with Tank Davis’ management unless he alters the deal to a more realistic one.

To make the split more agreeable, Tank Davis (27-0, 25 KOs), De La Hoya, says 10% can be held back with the fight winner getting that.

De La Hoya’s problem is that 23-year-old Ryan has never won a world title during his six-year professional career, and his opposition has primarily been middle-of-the-road types.

When Ryan has had opportunities to fight Tank, Joseph ‘Jojo’ Diaz Jr, and Devin Haney, he’s failed to take the matches.

“I’m ready to make Gervonta Davis a multi, multi, multi-million dollar offer to fight Ryan Garcia in November,” said Oscar De La Hoya to Fighthype.

“I believe Tank Davis had his last contractual fight with Mayweather Promotions. I’m not sure who’s promoting him now, but I’m willing to split this fight down the middle,” De La Hoya continued.

“I’m willing to make this fight available on DAZN and make it available on Showtime pay-per-view and split right down the middle. Let’s make this fight happen,” said De La Hoya.

“That’s the way it can become a reality. Working together, meeting halfway, and let’s get this thing going. That’s easy,” said De La Hoya when asked how he’ll be able to get Tank Davis to insist on getting the bigger slice of the pie due to him being the A-side against the belt-less Ryan Garcia.

To be sure, Davis-Garcia would be a big fight if it were to happen. Still, it seems evident that De La Hoya’s wacky idea of a 50-50 split for Ryan (22-0, 18 KOs) won’t be accepted by Al Haymon, Mayweather Promotions, or whoever is promoting Tank.

It’s safe to say that Ryan will never fight Tank Davis if De La Hoya sticks with that idea.

“You hold off 10% from each fighter’s purse, and whoever wins, they take that 10% of the pot. The negotiations shouldn’t be complicated. Tank Davis can make the biggest purse in his life fighting Ryan Garcia,” said De La Hoya.

Ryan hasn’t done enough in his career for the deal that De La Hoya is planning on offering to Tank Davis to be agreed to.

“That’s why I keep saying all roads lead to Ryan Garcia. You can keep fighting for a handful of a million dollars. That’s amazing money. But if you want to make multi, multi, multi-million dollars, you have to fight Ryan Garcia. I want to make it happen, and this is the way to do it.
