The latest Black Adam set photo to emerge shows a shirtless Dwayne Johnson preparing for a VFX scene during the final week of production.
Dwayne Johnson shares a shirtless photo of himself preparing for a VFX scene in Black Adam. When Johnson was first cast as Black Adam, the plan was for the DC anti-hero to appear in Shazam!, but this plan was scrapped in lieu of a solo star vehicle for The Rock, currently one of the biggest box office draws and highest-paid actors in Hollywood. After slowly gestating in development for years, the start of filming was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic and now Black Adam is ever-so-close to crossing the finish line.
Along with Johnson as the titular ancient Egyptian anti-hero, multiple Justice Society of America members will be making their cinematic debuts in Black Adam. They include Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Hawkman (Aldis Hodge). In the months leading up to filming, the cast frequently shared photos documenting their training on social media, followed by numerous looks at the film’s sets once production had begun, but Johnson’s costume has yet to be revealed in full. As Black Adam enters its final week of filming, Johnson has perhaps one of the last set photos to share before production wraps.

The latest Black Adam set photo to emerge shows the muscular Dwayne Johnson, shirtless, as he prepares for a VFX scene. In the caption, Johnson explains that the film’s makeup artist Bjoern Rehbein is applying tiny white dots on his body so the VFX team can “track and compute” his muscle fibers. Check out the photo of The Rock preparing for the “cutting edge scene” below:
These tracking dots are somewhat similar to the ones seen on mocap suits. The suits are meant to provide points of contrast for the camera to capture and then be edited later in post-production. It’s curious why The Rock’s physique would need to be enhanced by visual effects, especially since he already looks like he is chiseled from granite.
It has been difficult to glean much from Black Adam’s numerous behind-the-scenes photos, but one of the film’s stars, Sarah Shahi, who plays Adam’s potential love interest Adrianna, recently revealed that the Intergang, a team of villains from DC’s comics, will appear in the DCEU film, an exciting revelation for a film without many plot details thus far. Now that Black Adam is in its final week of filming, be on the lookout for the announcement on when production wraps.
