Finding the next Tony Romo: The big names TV executives are eyeing to be future NFL media stars

The file on Fred Gaudelli’s computer currently has eight names on it. It contains well-known NFLers, including a couple of people with Super Bowl rings. The file has a simple name — “Potential Talent” — and within that file could be the next star NFL analyst or studio host.

“When I come across someone who is intelligent or personable or funny, someone I think could do the job, I put them on the list,” said Gaudelli, the longtime executive producer of “Sunday Night Football.”

We are in the middle of June, but NFL broadcasting has no offseason. Executives such as Gaudelli are always thinking about current players or coaches who could transition into the booth with the kind of success that former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has had with CBS.
