Genshin Impact’s 2.1 update is right around the corner. In addition to new Inazuma content, this update is rumored to add fishing to the game.
Genshin Impact has seen quite a few updates since its launch last year, but the Version 2.0 and 2.1 updates have the potential to be the best ones yet. Version 2.0 was released in late July and introduced the new Electro region, Inazuma. This island nation looks quite different from the previous ones and is also home to several new and challenging enemies. Now, Version 2.1 is rumored to include an entirely new gameplay mechanism: fishing.
With Version 2.0 of Genshin Impact being such a content-heavy update, it might seem a little surprising that players are getting another seemingly large update so soon. 2.1 is also expected to add more islands in Inazuma – presumably the rest of the region. Considering Inazuma is an island nation, it makes sense that fishing would be important to its culture. As of the 2.o update, players can gather fish simply by swimming near them. While this method is just fine for gathering the meat for recipes, it isn’t exactly an entertaining part of the game.
The 2.1 update is allegedly going to have 20 fish available for players to catch. Twitter user and Genshin Impact leaker UBatcha explained that each type of fish will have an “ornamental” and “non-ornamental” version. The ornamental fish will be automatically sent to the Serenitea Pot, and the non-ornamental fish will go to the player’s inventory to be used in recipes or sold to fish vendors around Teyvat. Both versions of each fish will look the same, but players will be able to tell them apart because the ornamental fish will be harder to catch.
Genshin Impact 2.1 May Be Getting Fishing Gameplay
Additionally, the Genshin Impact 2.1 fishing leaks claim that special fish bait is also being added in the update. There will be five different kinds that players will need to choose from, and certain bait will only work with certain fish, but this can be selected and changed both before and during fishing. An important piece of information comes from the Genshin Impact leak site Honey Hunter World, which states that spots for fishing will be marked by ripples in the water. Players will need to interact with this area to initiate the activity. The site also explains that before the player begins fishing, a screen will pop up that lists the fish available to catch in that area. This is also allegedly where players will choose their fishing rods and bait.
Once those have been selected, players will need to hold the “cast rod” button to enter aiming mode. Both Honey Hunter World and Ubtacha state that throwing the line too close to the fish will scare them off but throwing too far away won’t catch the fish’s attention. Much like fishing in Stardew Valley, it looks like this aspect will require a bit of trial and error to get right. Once the line has been cast successfully, the player will have 20 to 30 seconds to catch the fish. Once the fish is hooked, players must hit the “raise hook” button, which will put the fish rod into a tension state. The player will then have to keep the tension in the right area on the tension bar to successfully catch the fish.
Lastly, the events for 2.1 were seemingly leaked by WFP (Wangsheng Funeral Parlor) on Twitter. One of these is titled “Lunar Realm” and appears to be a fishing event. Players will supposedly be helping a woman named Kujirai Momiji as she searches for a great fish called the “Lunar Leviathan.” The rewards seem to include Primogems, EXP, a fishing rod, and fish. This is all the information that is currently available about fishing in Genshin Impact, but miHoYo will likely confirm at least some of these leaks and rumors prior to the Version 2.1 update.
