Here’s How Much You’ll Pay For Galaxy Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3, And Watch 4

Samsung’s flagship devices tend to be expensive in general, and this year is likely to be no different with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3.

The prices for Samsung‘s Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3, as well as the Galaxy Watch 4 and Buds 2 have been revealed by a reliable source. These products are expected to be announced during Samsung’s Unpacked event on August 11. The Flip 3 and Fold 3 will bring new improvements to the foldable line and the Galaxy Watch 4 could become one of the best smartwatches of the year. With these new improvements, the natural question is how much will these new Samsung devices cost?

Faster hardware and better cameras tended to be the main selling point for many buyers up until the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip came around. With a completely foldable screen and multiple displays all built around an OS that already worked well, the Z Fold 2 (not the original Z Fold) was a winner for many as it offered something different, thanks to the ability to turn a phone into a tablet by simply opening it up. In terms of wearables, switching over to a Tizen/Wear OS hybrid and packing an Exynos W920, the Galaxy Watch 4 could quickly become the de facto Wear OS watch.

According to reliable leaker Evan Blass, the prices are no longer a mystery. Starting with the Galaxy Buds 2, the price point comes in at €159. All of the prices leaked by Blass are in Euros and therefore might not be exactly the same in other markets. However, when converted to USD, the Buds 2 could be around $180. The new Wear OS Galaxy Watch 4 will come in two variants, a 46mm and a 42mm. The 46mm will be €409 and the 42mm will come out at €379 (around $480 and $450, respectively). As for the Z Flip 3, there will be a 256GB and 128GB version. The 256GB will be €1,149 and the 128GB will be €1,099, which equates to roughly $1,350 and $1,300. Finally, it looks like Galaxy Z Fold 3 will have the same memory structure as the Flip 3 and be priced at €1,999 for the 256GB and €1,899 for the 128GB model. In US terms, around $2,350 and $2,250 based on a direct currency conversion.

So, A Price Increase This Time?

When the Z Fold 2 was released in 2020, it had a price tag of an even $2,000 in the US. The Z Flip came in at around $1,400. There could be a couple of different reasons for why the prices seem higher this time. Firstly, supply and demand has lead to not only chip shortages but also shortages in other common electronic components. Since foldable designs are relatively new, the process for making them is more than likely not efficient in its current state. In other words, it’s more expensive for Samsung to produce a Galaxy Z Fold 3 or Flip 3. Another reason for a possible higher price could be the added IPX8 water resistance that Samsung has supposedly achieved with the two new foldable phones. The previous models were both without water resistance and with a new layer of weatherproofing, that’s likely to add to the expense.

Samsung’s new phones are not meant to be cheap devices in general and Samsung does offer plenty of other options for those that do want a cheaper smartphone, including its flagship Galaxy S series. Considerable foldable phones are still quite new and novel, the improvements expected with the latest versions, and the effects of the pandemic, these leaked Samsung prices aren’t that surprising.
