Fortnite is celebrating the LGBTQ+ community with free items in the Item Shop. Players can get four sprays, a wrap, and an emote to use in-game.
Though Pride was last month, Fortnite will continue to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community with the Rainbow Royale event, and players can get free rainbow-themed cosmetics for a limited time. In addition, they can enjoy new music by LGBTQ+ artists like Lil Nas X, Troye Sivan, and Ben Platt in-game and add a Pride flag to their builds in Creative Mode. In addition, players will see a large rainbow in the sky over the island as they leave the Battle Bus during the next week. Fortnite added six free cosmetics to the Item Shop in honor of the event, including four sprays, an emote, and a wrap. Unlike some free cosmetics in Fortnite that can be unlocked through gameplay, there are no challenges associated with these items, and players can get all six right now.
Players will need to “purchase” each Rainbow Royale cosmetic separately from the Fortnite Item Shop to claim all the rewards. They can then equip and use them in-game. July has seen the addition of many new cosmetics to the Item Shop, including the Fortnite LeBron James outfit sets and the Magma Masters Pack. Players who don’t want to spend real money can still add something new to their Locker before the end of the month, and show support for inclusivity. The Rainbow Royale promotion only lasts a week, so players should make sure to visit the Item Shop and pick up all the freebies before they’re gone. Here’s how to get the Rainbow Royale cosmetics and participate in the event this week in Fortnite.
How to Participate in Fortnite Rainbow Royale
The Fortnite Rainbow Royale event will last from now until July 27. When players log into their Fortnite account and enter the main menu, they will see the option to get the Rainbow Royale cosmetics in the upper-right corner. They should select this option to be taken to the Rainbow Royale section of the Fortnite Item Shop right away.
They will need to click on each individual item in the set and choose Claim, then confirm by choosing Claim again. From this screen, they can also choose to Equip if they prefer. Players will need to repeat this process to claim the following cosmetics:
- Vibrant Heart Rainbow Royale Spray
- Vibrant Llama Rainbow Royale Spray
- Vibrant Boogie Rainbow Royale Spray
- Vibrant Star Rainbow Royale Spray
- Sunshine & Rainbows Wrap
- Take a ‘Bow Emote
They can also use a rainbow flag prop when they build cool new maps in Fortnite Creative Mode. It does not appear players need to do anything to claim this item and can begin using it right away.
Starting during the Rainbow Royale event, some tracks from Rocket League‘s Love ISLV playlist featuring popular LGBTQ+ artists are now available on various radio stations. The songs, and where players can tune in to listen, appear below:
- Big Freedia: “Platinum”
- Lil Nas X: “Montero”
- King Princess: “Pain”
- Troye Sivan: “STUD”
- Ben Platt: “Imagine”
- Daya: “Bad Girl”
- Hayley Kiyoko: “Found My Friends”
- Kim Petras: “Malibu”
Typically the easiest way to listen to the radio in Fortnite is to hop into an empty vehicle and drive.
The announcement of the Rainbow Royale event in Fortnite has garnered some controversy online, but many members of the Fortnite LGBTQ+ community have generally reacted favorably to this addition. It is nice to see a massive game like Fortnite continue its commitment to inclusivity for fans and players beyond Pride. Though the Rainbow Royale may only last a week, the ability for all Fortnite fans to express themselves and leave their mark in-game with these cosmetics will last long after it ends.
Fortnite is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Android.
