The Suicide Squad director James Gunn delivers eager fans a brand new poster and word of an earlier than expected release date for his DC film.
The Suicide Squad director James Gunn has delivered eager fans a special treat by sharing a new poster and revealing an earlier U.S. release date for his upcoming DCEU outing. Gunn, who is currently putting the finishing touches on his Peacemaker spin-off series for HBO Max, is currently earning rave reviews from advanced screenings of his Suicide Squad sequel. Joining the original Suicide Squad cast members Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney and Viola Davis are several other big names including Idris Elba, John Cena, Sylvester Stallone, and Peter Capaldi.
In 2018, Gunn was fired from working on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after a series of old controversial tweets came to light. However, the decision from Disney to let him go ultimately worked out in Warner Bros.’s favor, as The Suicide Squad producer Peter Safran exclusively told Screen Rant it only took WB days to offer Gunn his choice of movies following the announcement. To many DC fans’ delight, Gunn ultimately settled on a follow-up to David Ayer’s 2016 Suicide Squad.

Previously saying it’s “the most fun I’ve ever had in my life on a movie”, Gunn has managed to share a special surprise for expectant fans. In addition to sharing a brand-new poster, Gunn has announced that U.S. audiences will get to experience the film one day early on August 5th, which also happens to be his birthday. Check out Gunn’s original post below:
Ever since its original inception, the DCEU has faced its fair share of difficulties in attempting to achieve the sort of success enjoyed by the rival MCU. Yet amidst much talk of studio interference, and knee-jerk attempts to respond to the poor critical reception of their earliest films, Gunn has been open in suggesting his own experiences on set have been vastly different to those experienced by fellow directors David Ayer and Zack Snyder. Gunn’s enthusiasm for his latest film is palpable, and a breath of fresh air for DC fans looking to see the franchise finally find more solid footing.
With the DCEU planning a swathe of new superhero outings, it is exciting news that fans will be able to experience the new franchise entry a little earlier than anticipated. Certainly, countless fans will be more than willing to help celebrate Gunn’s birthday by treating themselves to an outing to the theater. With the wait almost over, The Suicide Squad will now premiere on the evening of August 5.
