Jeff Gordon leaves Fox Sports for Hendrick vice chairman role: What this means for both organizations

Jeff Gordon is leaving Fox Sports to take a full-time role at Hendrick Motorsports, where as vice chairman he’ll be second in command behind only team owner Rick Hendrick. The Athletic’s Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianchi analyze Gordon’s decision to become a full-time executive and what his departure means to Fox Sports, which now has a vacancy in its broadcast booth.

How does this impact Hendrick Motorsports?

Jordan Bianchi: This is a win for Hendrick Motorsports, a big win, in the sense that Gordon will no longer have to focus on his Fox Sports duties during the first half of the NASCAR season and can now put his attention solely on Hendrick. Going forward, it’s unclear how Gordon taking on a larger role impacts Hendrick.
