A Marvel Studios executive teases there are multiple animated MCU shows in development, saying Marvel’s What If…? is the first of many.
A Marvel Studios executive teases multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe animated shows are in development after Marvel’s What If…? It’s been more than 13 years since the MCU began with Iron Man, and that time has seen Marvel Studios become one of the premiere homes for blockbuster entertainment. Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, has orchestrated 24 released MCU films and three Disney+ shows so far, with every single MCU property being live-action to this point. This will change in Phase 4 once Marvel’s What If…? debuts in August.
Marvel Studios exploring the animation world with Marvel’s What If…? opens up the MCU to plenty of possibilities. The recent What If… trailer gave audiences a glimpse of exactly what can happen. The multiverse-centric story includes alternate versions of Peggy Carter, Black Panther, Killmonger, Thor, Gamora, and other MCU characters, with most of the show’s cast comprised of MCU actors. After the promising look at What If…?, it appears that more animated MCU content is on the way.

Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt is a Production and Development executive at Marvel Studios, and she celebrated the release of the What If…? trailer by sharing it on her LinkedIn page (via The Direct). Her post included a caption that read, “Get ready for the first of many amazing animation series! Thrilled to be working with these talented crews!” This heavily teases that Marvel Studios already has multiple animated shows in development. No shows beyond Marvel’s What If…? are confirmed at this time.
There have been dozens of Marvel animated shows over the years, but Marvel’s What If…? is currently the only one that Marvel Studios is involved in. Kevin Feige now has control over more branches of Marvel, including the animation department, but Marvel Studios is not known to be actively involved in other animated shows like MODOK or Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Vasquez-Eberhardt’s position at Marvel Studios specifically should rule out that she’s involved in non-Marvel Studios projects.
As for what animated shows Marvel Studios could be working on already, Feige already confirmed Marvel’s What If…? season 2 is happening, so that could be one. There were also rumors a few years ago that Marvel Studios was developing Power Pack as an animated show instead of a live-action movie as once imagined. If more Marvel Studios animated shows are coming, then it will be interesting to see if they are all part of the main MCU continuity or if any are completely separate. It will also be fascinating to see if any help push the main storylines and characters forward.
The potential of Marvel Studios making more animated content also opens up some exciting possibilities thanks to Disney. While Marvel’s What If…? looks to have good animation teams behind it, Marvel Studios could also work with Pixar or Walt Disney Animation Studios on new animated shows, or even movies. Such a collaboration could be a huge win for all parties, especially after great fan art of the Avengers in Disney’s animated form. Now, fans will just have to wait and see what other animated MCU shows are announced in the future.
