Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, teases that WandaVision star Kathryn Hahn will return to the MCU, and it could be sometime soon.
Kevin Feige has teased that WandaVision star, Kathryn Hahn, will return to the MCU as Agatha Harkness and it could be sometime soon. WandaVision kicked off Phase 4 of the MCU back in January and introduced audiences to Agnes, the noisy neighbor who eventually revealed herself to be the comic book character, Agatha Harkness. In the comics, Agatha serves as a mentor to Wanda Maximoff, but for the series, they reimagined her as the main villain.
The series ended with Agatha defeated, but Wanda decided not to kill her and instead trapped her in the neighbor character she created for herself (a prisoner of her own mind). With the character left alive, it leaves the door open for Marvel Studios to revisit the character if they wanted to. Hahn’s take on Agatha became an instant breakout star character, with the catchy song “Agatha All Along” becoming a hit on social media and music streaming charts.
During an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, reported by Comicbook.com, Kevin Feige says that Hahn will reprise her role as Agatha Harkness. While he didn’t give a specific date or project, he did tease it would be soon. Hahn is currently filming Knives Out 2 in Greece, so her schedule could open up after that film wraps. Read what Feige said below:
Someday. Someday soon. You will see Kathryn Hahn in Knives Out 2 next, then maybe an assortment of other things. But within the MCU, it can’t come soon enough. Let’s put it that way.
The note about Agatha appearing soon opens the door for a number of possible projects the character could appear in. The obvious answer is the character will appear alongside WandaVision star, Elizabeth Olsen, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness where she could be an unlikely ally to the newly dubbed Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange. Given the fact that Agatha has been alive since 1693, the character has lived a long life and could tie into the upcoming Eternals films or the Mandarin in Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in small cameos. The ethics of locking her inside her own mind could be a fun concept to explore in the upcoming She-Hulk, where they could address the fact that Agatha received a punishment without a trial, and Hahn’s comedic history would fit right at home with the tone the series is pitching.
The other lingering question is how the various Phase 4 projects are supposedly linked together and what they could be leading to. Both The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Black Widow tease that Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is recruiting a team of characters who will serve as a mirror of The Avengers: with John Walker, a.k.a. U.S. Agent as the Captain America stand-in and Yelena Belova as the new Black Widow. With Agatha as Phase 4’s first major villain, she could be the next piece of the puzzle. Valentina could recruit Agatha to her team to be the stand-in for The Scarlet Witch and tease either the formation of The Dark Avengers or the Thunderbolts. Given how audiences have responded to the character after WandaVision, it is likely Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness will be here to stay in the MCU for a long time.
