A new clip for Marvel’s What If…? reveals Captain Peggy Carter seeing Steve Rogers’ Hydra Stomper suit for the first time in the animated series. A.C. Bradley’s show is based on the anthology Marvel comics of the same name that explores a variety of alternate dimensions with major moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe occurring differently. Some such instances include Captain Carter, Killmonger becoming King of Wakanda, T’Challa becoming Guardians of the Galaxy leader Star-Lord and zombified versions of heroes.
What If…? was announced to be in development for Disney+ alongside a number of other projects, including WandaVision, Loki and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The series will feature a majority of MCU stars reprising their roles, some of which include Hayley Atwell as Peggy, Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Development has already begun on What If…? season 2, which will also run for nine episodes and has been confirmed to see Atwell’s Captain Carter return.
With just a week remaining until the series arrives on Disney+, Marvel Studios has unveiled a new clip for What If…?. The video sees Captain Carter, Bucky Barnes and Dum Dum Dugan in the middle of a battlefield with Steve Rogers coming to save the day in his HYDRA Stomper armor. Check out the new clip below:
Throughout her live-action run in the MCU, Atwell’s iteration of Peggy Carter has gone through a rollercoaster of roles from her tough love interest in Captain America: The First Avenger to powerful heroine in the short-lived ABC series Agent Carter and final link to Steve’s past in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. When word first broke that What If…? would see the character become the first chronological super soldier, excitement went through the roof with fans curious to see what changes this would be to the character as well as her dynamic with Rogers and Bucky. The new video may not offer much in the way of explanation for why she’s chosen for this heroic position, but it does offer the official confirmation of Steve donning the world’s first Iron Man suit.
While previous merchandise leaks for What If…? have already pointed to Rogers becoming the HYDRA Stomper in the animated series, the clip does a better job of securing these theories and offering a look at the power he holds in the suit. With the first Iron Man film seeing Tony Stark’s original suit fall apart as quickly as it was put together due to being made in a cave, it makes more sense Howard Stark properly building one in a laboratory would create a powerful suit even in the time of World War II. Only time will tell what audiences can expect from Captain Carter and Rogers’ HYDRA Stomper when the series arrives on Disney+ on August 11.
