Philanthropist and Advocate Rima Fakih Slaiby Appointed to World Food Program USA Board of Directors

WASHINGTON, April 15, 2021 / Watchonstreaming / – The US World Food Program honored our distinguished board of directors, Rima Fakih Slaby-Lebanon, an American philanthropist, hunger advocate, and global humanitarian. Ms. Slaby will work closely with us to promote and support the mission of the United Nations World Food Program to alleviate world hunger. Working closely with the US World Food Program, Ms. Slaby will help us introduce our mission to new audiences and secure additional funding as we work to feed 110 million hungry people in 7 countries this year.

Ms. Slaby said she was honored to join the board of directors of the US World Food Program. She added: “The number of hungry people around the world is depressing and unbearable! It is a privilege to use your reputation for saving colleagues from starvation. I was born in a war-torn country; I know what it’s like to have food on the table. ”

Born in Lebanon, Ms. Slaby and her family fled the Lebanese civil war when she was seven years old and immigrated to the United States in search of a better life. Deeply moved by the suffering and hunger her family endured during the war, she dedicated her life to helping those in need. As a board member, she will bring awareness and understanding to weaker communities, especially in Lebanon and the Middle East.

Ms. Slaby, who grew up in Dearborn, Michigan, rose to national fame in 2010 when she was crowned the first and only immigrant, the Arab woman Miss America. In addition to serving on our board, she is an ambassador for the Lebanese Cancer Center in Lebanon, an ambassador for the School on Wheels Foundation, and a board member for the Best Buddies International Foundation. Ms. Slaby lives in Los Angeles with her husband and her three children.

Ms. Slaby and her husband Wasim “SAL” Slaby-Founder and CEO, SALXCO / XO Records-Fan Supporter and Champion of the World Food Program Mission in the United States. Slaby runs a reporter for over 45 artists, producers, and songwriters (including The Weekend, Doza Cat, Swedish House Mafia, French Montana, Babe Rekha, and many more). In May 2020, she launched a GoFundMe in Lebanon to raise funds for the United States’ World Food Program, which in turn received 120,000,000 in 24 hours. Following the Beirut port bombing in August 2020, the couple conducted a Global Aid for Lebanon campaign in collaboration with the US World Food Program, Global Citizen, the Lebanese Red Cross. and the Lebanese Children’s Cancer Center, to raise funds for the victims of the explosion. The campaign has raised more than a million dollars.
