The trailer for Queenpins, an upcoming crime-comedy starring Kristen Bell, has been released. Co-written and directed by husband and wife Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly, the film was inspired by a true story involving two women who create a multi million-dollar scam involving counterfeit coupons. Bell’s former co-star from The Good Place, Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Downward Dog, Killing Eve, Why Women Kill), will play Bell’s friend and accomplice in the undertaking of the duo’s fraudulent coupon business. Other cast members include Paul Walter Hauser, Bebe Rexha, and Vince Vaughn. Ben Stiller also serves as an executive producer of the film.

Queenpins’ distribution company STXFilms released a trailer for the upcoming feature, showcasing an intriguing and original premise. While the film is marketed as a comedy, the trailer’s opening would initially lead viewers to believe otherwise. Bell and Howell-Baptiste appear to make an entertaining team as they navigate the complexities of the criminal life they unexpectedly create for themselves. Check out the original trailer below:

The concept of ordinary people taking on extraordinary endeavors as a means of survival is nothing new or groundbreaking. Shows like Breaking Bad, Ozark, and The Sopranos are just a few examples with the same basic premise of seemingly average people living anything but average lives. Collecting coupons is about as mundane as it gets, but turning it into a high-stakes criminal business surely isn’t. In light of today’s outlook on corporate greed, Queenpins may have hit the mark when it comes to the growing defiance of struggling middle-class women who are burnt out from playing by the rules and still never getting ahead. Queenpins is scheduled to show in theaters on September 10th of this year and will eventually stream on Paramount+.
