Cynthia Nixon posted a preview cast photo of The Sex and the City revival And Just Like That…, confirming that the revival has begun shooting.
The upcoming Sex and the City revival And Just Like That… now has a first image showing the three main actors returning for the series. Sex and the City began as an original comedy series on HBO premiering in 1998, adapted from Candace Bushnell’s 1997 book of the same name. The show followed the friendship of four women — Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) — and their individual romantic relationships. The show ran for six seasons, concluding in 2004, winning Emmy Awards for Nixon and Parker, and becoming the first cable show to win Outstanding Comedy Series in 2001.

It was one of the first shows fully centered around womens’ sex lives and was later made into two feature films in 2008 and 2010, both including Cattrall, while also generating a prequel series titled The Carrie Diaries, airing for two seasons in 2013 on The CW. Amidst the slew of upcoming television returns, HBO Max has ordered another chapter to the franchise that will feature the return of Parker, Nixon, and Davis. Cattrall will not reprise her character.
Nixon has revealed the first cast photo for And Just Like That…, showing the trio walking down the streets of New York City. She captioned her post, “And just like that, it was day one!!”. The series will have a 10-episode run and was originally slated to begin production in New York City in late spring before being pushed to the summer. Nixon’s post can be viewed below:
With Nixon’s post, fans can get excited that the reboot of Sex and the City has begun shooting. The show will also feature the return of Chris Noth, Evan Handler, and David Eigenberg as the male counterparts of the three ladies, as well as John Corbett, Mario Cantone, Willie Garson, and the newly-added Sara Ramirez. Details of the series have started to come to light and despite the revival focusing on the original three stars navigating modern society in their 50s, the show will also explore the evolution of gender politics and sexual identities.
When Sex and the City first aired, it became a groundbreaking show for exploring female sexuality at a time when few shows touched on it, and with the revival now in production, it has the opportunity to show how much the world has changed specifically for its three main characters and widen the horizons of sexuality and feminism. The release date of And Just Like That… is yet to be revealed, but it’ll be interesting to see what has become of Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda many years later.
