Two Corpus Christi area powerhouses in Class 4A will open the season in the Top 10 of the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football state rankings, announced Friday.
Calallen opens the season No. 2 in Class 4A Division I after winning District 15-4A Division I and falling to eventual state semifinalist Austin LBJ in the regional semifinals.
The Wildcats finished 10-3 in 2020 and return defensive stars Colten Calloway, William Burch that are among 16 returning starters.
Argyle opens the season No. 1 and Melissa, El Campo and Waco La Vega round out the Top 5.
Sinton heads into the 2021 season as the No. 10-ranked team in Class 4A Division II.
The Pirates were playing some of the best football in the state heading into the postseason, winning eight consecutive games and the District 16-4A Division II title on the way to the regional semifinals.
Sinton fell to Wimberley 35-14 to close its season at 8-4.
The Pirates return quarterback Rylan Galvan and running back Rene Galvan along with Jaquae Stewart on defense.
