Liverpool have the chance to move one point behind Manchester City on Tuesday, as they face Southampton in the Premier League.
Man City‘s 2-2 draw at West Ham United on Sunday has revitalised Liverpool ‘s title hopes, with just four points currently separating the two sides. If Liverpool pick up three points at Southampton on Tuesday night, the Reds move a point behind the leaders with one game to go.
Liverpool go into the clash against Southampton in high spirits after their FA Cup final triumph against Chelsea. However, with a win a necessity, Jurgen Klopp ‘s side may be missing some key players following Saturday’s trophy win.
Mohamed Salah and Virgil can Dijk are both doubts after both coming off against Chelsea with injuries, whilst Fabinho will miss out again. With the UEFA Champions League final in just under two weeks, Salah and Van Dijk may not be rushed back.
So, what line-ups will both teams select? And, what could the final score be? We used FIFA 22 to get a score prediction for Liverpool versus Southampton on Tuesday and this is what happened…
Southampton v Liverpool score predicted by simulation
We used kick-off mode in FIFA 22, but didn’t select a team to control, we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a score prediction.
We predict that the Saints could set up in a 4-4-2 formation, with their line-up as follows: McCarthy; Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Salisu, Perraud; Redmond, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Elyounoussi; Broja, Adams.
We predict that Liverpool could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Alisson; Gomez, Matip, Konate, Tsimikas; Henderson, Milner, Keita; Jota, Firmino, Mane.
Liverpool took the lead within the first 10 minutes at St. Mary’s, with Sadio Mane finishing off a well-worked team move. Kostas Tsimikas’ cross flew past everyone in the box and eventually found Diogo Jota at the back post, and the Portuguese forward found Mane inside the area with a perfectly placed pass.
As the ball was fizzed into Mane’s feet, the forward scooped the ball around his marker to put himself through one-on-one with the ‘keeper, and he drilled his effort low and into the bottom corner for the lead.
The much-changed Liverpool side saw Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino come into the starting XI, with Salah and Luis Diaz dropping out. Jota was able to provide the assist for the opener, and he found himself on the scoresheet just seven minutes later as he scored in style.
Jota’s charge forward was picked out with a long ball by Jordan Henderson, falling into the path of the 25-year-old. But, rather than bringing the ball down, Jota struck the ball on the volley, placing it into the far corner to double the Reds’ lead.
Liverpool were in full control of the first half at Southampton, with the home side struggling to get hold of the ball. Alex McCarthy denied Roberto Firmino twice in the opening half an hour, but the Brazilian found Liverpool’s third just before half-time.
Firmino dropped deep to pick up the ball from James Milner before jinxing past two challenges as he approached the box. Quickly closed down by the Saints’ backline, Firmino used the body of the defender to block the ‘keeper’s sight and curl a shot towards the far corner, beating McCarthy and nestling into the net.
With a healthy lead at halftime, Klopp opted to make some changes, taking Henderson and Mane off for Curtis Jones and Divock Origi. Southampton found themselves getting forward more often in the second half, but they were unable to pull a goal back as the Reds held out for the win.
