The first plot tease for season 4 of Westworld is here as a report indicates that Aaron Paul and Tessa Thompson’s characters will come face-to-face.
Tessa Thompson’s Charlotte Hale-clone will meet Aaron Paul’s Caleb in season 4 of Westworld. Based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 film of the same name, Westworld has been one of the most cerebral series on television since its premiere on HBO in 2016. Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy co-created the sci-fi show and still serve as its head writers to this day. Other than being a massive hit with critics, scoring 54 Emmy nods, the mind-bending series has famously confused viewers over its 3-season run.
Season 1 of Westworld started off rather simply in its titular Western-themed amusement park as its guests indulged in various violent delights made possible by its highly advanced humanoid robots referred to as hosts. As they gradually gain consciousness and escape the park, the show expands its narrative outside of Westworld in season 2, while the third season abandons its Wild West elements and transitions entirely to a dystopian, mid-21st century world where life is ruled by an omnipotent AI known as Rehoboam. Production on season 4 of Westworld began sometime this June, but had to recently be put on hold due to a positive COVID-19 test.
Now, it is being reported that Westworld has resumed production after a 2-day shutdown. To supplement this positive news, Deadline is able to confirm that season 4 will see the first encounter between Aaron Paul’s war-veteran Caleb and Tessa Thompson’s Charlotte Hale-clone. Caleb will reportedly be a central figure in the war between humans and the hosts who have escaped Westworld and infiltrated society. With much about season 4 still shrouded in mystery, this is the first plot tease to hint at what’s to come for the cerebral sci-fi series.
Westworld was the latest prominent television production to experience a brief COVID-19 scare amid the surging delta variant. The upcoming seasons of American Horror Story, Bridgerton, and the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, all recently had to be put on pause due to positive coronavirus tests. Westworld, like many of the others, has now resumed filming and is back on schedule barring a few minor adjustments.
Introduced in season 3, Caleb now seems to be stepping up as the show’s central character, filling the void left by Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) who might not return. It’s no surprise Caleb and the Charlotte Hale-clone, which actually has the consciousness of Dolores, will soon come face-to-face since the season 3 finale pitted them directly against one another. A new season of Westworld has aired every two years since its initial premiere in 2016. If everything stays on schedule, season 4 should come sometime next year.
