Zachary Levi reacts to the new costumes for Shazam: Fury of the Gods, calling them colorful and a massive upgrade from the past film.
Zachary Levi calls the new costumes for Shazam: Fury of the Gods a huge upgrade from the previous movie. After making his DCEU debut in 2019’s Shazam, Levi will return for the hit film’s sequel. While the first movie covered the origin story of Billy Batson (Asher Angel as a teen, Levi as an adult), Shazam 2 will see the young hero settle further into his powers alongside his foster siblings. Director David F. Sandberg is also back for Fury of the Gods, which is currently in production. After some schedule reshufflings caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Shazam 2 won’t premiere until June 2023.

Because of that, plot details are still being kept under wraps. The Shazam family will be going up against a pair of demigoddesses, Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu). West Side Story breakout Rachel Zegler also has a role in the film. Beyond the exciting new cast additions, much of the buzz surrounding Shazam 2 has pertained to the costumes the heroes will be wearing. After hyping the updated suits, Sandberg unveiled a picture of the entire Shazam family in their new threads earlier this week.
Fans erupted with excitement over the new Shazam 2 looks, and Levi has heard the feedback. On Tuesday, Levi posted an enthusiastic message thanking everyone for their supportive tweets. Levi declared the new costumes to be “a huge upgrade, full of color (despite the some incorrect conclusions based on ONE PHOTO), and no one feels objectified wearing them.” With those last words, he appears to be taking aim at some of the criticism that might’ve arose over the designs.
Hey y’all! Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who’s been so supportive of our new suits in Shazam: FotG! 🤗 They are a huge upgrade, full of color (despite the some incorrect conclusions based on ONE PHOTO), and no one feels objectified wearing them. 😘 As you were.

Sandberg’s picture of the new Shazam 2 costumes had what appeared to be a darker filter, which thus muted the colors of the suits. The first Shazam stood out from the rest of the gritty DCEU because of its brighter tone and look, and it’s nice to know the sequel won’t lose that special element. Levi’s enthusiasm for the costumes only makes their debut in Shazam 2 more exciting; it helps when the actors themselves are truly excited to wear their outfits.
What made the Shazam: Fury of the Gods costume reveal even more exciting was that most of the suits arrived before they were leaked online. Photos of Levi’s costume had emerged online via set photos, but the rest of the family’s superhero looks were pleasant surprises. With two years to go before Shazam 2 arrives in theaters, fans have a long wait ahead of them. Luckily, the early peeks they’ve been granted look quite promising, and they can help make the wait a bit more bearable.
